The quest to find eternal career bliss
may sometimes seem like a hopeless journey. As we ponder
whether or not the grass is truly greener at another company,
maybe it’s time to take action and find out. But where to
begin? In addition to completing the elemental steps, such
as updating your résumé, you must decide what your ideal job
really is. Needless to say, with such an overwhelming number
of career possibilities, it can be a difficult decision.
In today’s job market, the competition is fierce, which can
be wearisome for many professional Latinas. Finding a
position in a specific area of expertise at a company can
seem impossible. For this reason, LATINA Style offers
resources to assist Latinas in finding the right position at
the right company.
Through the LATINA Style 50 special report and
related articles, professional Latinas can obtain
information on the 50 companies selected as the top
companies for Latinas to work for in the United States—information,
for example, on the number of Latina executives at those
companies and on their mentoring and benefits programs. We
proudly continue in this vein by bringing you information on
the recruiting trends and strategies utilized by the top 50
companies.
To ensure that productive and innovative Latinas are
employed, each year the top 50 companies spend hundreds of
millions of dollars in recruiting campaigns and in ongoing
research to develop new recruiting strategies.
Furthermore, many of the selected companies are exploring
new recruiting tactics on college campuses and at college
events. This technique is largely successful and considered
most effective when targeting specific job categories. The
“Recruitment Locations” chart shown below indicates the
number of top 50 companies that recruit on college campuses;
at college career fairs, conferences, and workshops; and in
other such arenas. As noted, the vast majority of the
selected companies prefer to make on-site college visits
rather than to rely simply on printed materials, such as
recruitment brochures and diversity reports.
In addition, many of the top 50 companies showcase their
commitment to hiring professional Latinas by advertising
available positions in various Hispanic media outlets. As
the below “Recruitment Through Hispanic Media” chart
indicates, a significant number of companies place
recruiting ads in Hispanic publications, as well as on
Hispanic radio and television stations and websites. The
utilization of Hispanic media resources demonstrates that
many of the companies are well aware of the sense of
community of professional Latinas and displays the companies’
devotion to promoting career and personal growth.
Many of the top 50 companies are researching new, innovative
methods to recruit professional Latinas. One new trend is to
seek the support of a corporate-management firm or
recruiting agency. It’s no surprise that this industry is
quickly expanding. Corporations rely on this type of agency
to assist in attracting qualified candidates. The duties
many of these agencies perform include obtaining background
information on and interviewing applicants to client
corporations and then providing them with recommendations.
By using this system, the client companies are able to
efficiently and effectively select the best candidate for an
available position.
Another innovative trend emerging from corporations is the
direct online career links many are posting on their company
websites. In-depth descriptions of available positions
detail the responsibilities and requirements that companies
are searching for in potential employees. Companies have the
ability to quickly receive and review applications to
determine which candidates would be the best fit.
A renowned recruiting method, and one that symbolizes the
technology age, is searching for candidates using online
career sites, such as Careerbuilder.com or Monster.com.
These sights are used by numerous national and international
corporations, small businesses, and, of course, all of the
top 50 companies. Literally hundreds of résumés are at the
companies’ disposal.
With a multitude of resources available and with the
competitive nature of today’s job market, many companies are
constantly searching for that untapped source. Isn’t it
about time these companies found you!
